Club for Urban and Environmental Sustainability's Planning Conference Travel Campaign (2026)

This spring of 2026, the American Planning Association (APA) is organizing a national conference in Detroit, Michigan. Every year, about 15-25 Western students attend these types of planning conferences, providing them with valuable exposure to the mainstream planning profession, insights into solutions for challenges that fellow planners have faced, and opportunities to network with planning organizations, academics, and employers.

Your donations assist the Club for Urban and Environmental Sustainability's (CUES) (formerly Western Urban Planners) students in attending APA's National Planning Conference this spring!

Since 2017, Dr. Laninga has taken over 111 students to both the National Planning Conference and APA WA Conference because of the impact they can have on a student's future career opportunities. One student attendee of NPC 2024 Minneapolis said that it was inspiring, “[My first planning conference] inspired me to seek involvement in my own community and heavily invest myself not only in my curriculum but in the world we live in." At NPC 2025 Denver, one student was offered an interview with a Tribal planning department, and later accepted the job!

Our goal is to provide this crucial professional development opportunity to any senior club member who wishes to attend. Any assistance will bring us closer than ever to reaching this goal and allowing urban planning students the opportunity to participate without the fear of additional costs.
