The WWU women’s Rugby Club began in 1977 and has been steadily growing for the past 47 years. What was initially a small self-coached group is now a strong program of over 40 students, led by wonderful volunteer coaches. The team emphasizes the development of an inclusive community where all skill levels and identities are welcome.
Through lots of hard work and passion for the game, the Vikings have won their League competition for the second year in a row and are advancing to Conference playoffs! Thanks to all of your support last year we were able to compete in the Conference playoffs in Palo Alto, California. This was an incredible experience; full of growth in our rugby skills, and some wonderful memories. This year, the Conference playoffs will be hosted at Western Washington University on April 6th! Come see how your contributions have helped our program flourish as we compete against Stanford University! As we secured first place in league play, we will not only be playing in conference playoffs but also automatically advancing to the Regional competition in Arizona April 19th and 21st. We could not have gotten to this point without the support of our friends, families, fans, and amazing coaches!
As a club sport, league play travel expenses are paid for by the players. During our regular season we never travel farther than Oregon. As we advance farther into playoffs, the cost of travel increases. To alleviate the out-of-pocket expense for our players and give everyone the ability to travel we have set the goal of raising $15,000 to cover the cost of transportation, lodging, and food for the team. To raise these funds, we will be hosting a team walk-a-thon on March 17th, selling team apparel at our conference game, creating a Trivia night, and crowdfunding until April 14th If you would like to contribute by participating in one of these events please see our Facebook and Instagram pages for regular updates!
