In June of 2023, 45 student musicians from the WWU Symphony Orchestra will embark on an eight-day, six-night concert tour of Spain, with performances in Granada, Valencia, and Barcelona—culminating in a performance at Barcelona's iconic Palau de la Música Catalana.
Along the way, Western's student musicians will spend time exploring the many diverse influences that make Spanish culture so unique, and will also visit important historical sites, including:
This tour is a reboot of a trip to Prague and Vienna that was scheduled for the summer of 2020, but had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you to our generous donors before the pandemic who helped us raise over $70,000 for that trip; unfortunately we lost nearly $16,000 in nonrecoverable expenses from our travel agency and tour operator.
The total expenses of this tour add up to just under $200,000. The current cost for each student participant is $3,000. These student contributions, plus the $54,000 remaining from the canceled 2020 tour, leaves just $20,000 remaining to raise. Every dollar raised beyond that will go towards reducing each student's high participation costs.
Travel opportunities like this are invaluable to our students, not only in their musical lives, but also in their larger growth and development as global citizens. In keeping with the WWU Music Department's shared value of bringing access to world-class musical experiences to all of our students, your contribution today will help to ensure that every student who wants to participate in this experience will have the ability to do so.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Every single dollar makes a difference to make the trip possible and affordable for students. This will get us a lot closer to being able to cover travel and lodging!
Can cover domestic travel costs for a whole section of students
This would help us tremendously towards reaching our goal and reduce the cost of the trip to students.
This could cover the cost of the whole trip for a symphony orchestra student who can't afford it.
