Hello, cherished donor!
Thank you again so much for giving to the KUGS Scholarship Fund. We’re so close to hitting our goal–and we want to get there by the end of the year.
We know you already donated—seriously, thank you!—so we wanted to let you know about a couple of other ways you can help us seal the deal on this important scholarship.
1. Tell your friends! Cognitive research has shown that social sharing really does help move the needle. If you haven’t already, we would LOVE if you could share the link to the fundraiser along with one of our images (see below!) and tell your audience why you gave, what we’re doing, and why this matters. Even just a couple of small donations from your friends and family can make a huge difference—it’s what got us this far in the first place.
2. Find out if your employer has a matching program. A lot of folks don’t even realize that their boss will chip in to causes that their employees care about. Ask around and see if your gift can go even further.
3. Ask that donations be made in your honor this holiday season. Ok, ok, it’s one of the greatest Seinfeld jokes of all time, but seriously? Most of us don’t need another pair of fuzzy slippers. Instead, ask that your family or work holiday giving include a charitable aspect, and put KUGS on the list!
4. Participate in Giving Tuesday! December 3 is Giving Tuesday - a date that is globally recognized for annual community support and giving. Save the date and post on December 3 with the hashtag #GivingTuesday to join the movement.
And that’s it. Super-easy. We’re so close to our goal—just $6,889 away!—and we’d love to get this thing tied up with a red ribbon by the end of the year. Imagine how exciting it’ll be to start the new year with a brand-new, first-time scholarship for kids who just want to play music and learn about global affairs.
Thank you again SO MUCH for your gift! We seriously, seriously wouldn’t be here without you.
Have a great rest of your year,
— Casey + Kyler + HBO + SAL
Thank you for your kindness and generosity for the KUGS Scholarship! At the time of this email, we raised over $1,600 for the KUGS Scholarship just today. That's 27 donors! In one day!
This effort is still going strong. We are currently #11 in the running to receive the additional $1,000. If you already donated today - thank you! If you are thinking about donating today, please do! If you have friends or know any WWU alums who would be interested in contributing, please let them know about GiveDay!
Donations of only $10 will help us improve our standings and get closer to that extra bit of funds. Visit our GiveDay page to check our status in the standings and make a donation. And, when making a donation, make sure it is designated to "KUGS Scholarship."
Thank you again!
Sincerely,
KUGS Scholarship Fundraising Team
Today is WWU's GiveDay! This means that there is matching funds available for our scholarship fundraiser. And, the five WWU programs receiving the most donors today (of at least $10) will receive an additional $1,000.
A gift will help us get closer to receiving that extra $1,000. If you already donated to our scholarship this year, thank you so much! We hope that you'll consider sending some dollars our way again today. Make sure your donation is designated to "KUGS Scholarship."
For May 30th only, please send your donations to our GiveDay page.
Thank you again!
KUGS family and friends,
This week, Western will be celebrating Give Day—a day when giving gives back! On Thursday, May 30, a percentage of every gift to WWU clubs, organizations, sports, and scholarships will be matched. And, the five programs with the most donors on Thursday will secure another $1,000 each! It's a great way make your dollars go a little further.
This Thursday is a great day to make a gift to our KUGS scholarship. We're so close to hitting our goal, creating the first-ever endowment for students who are participating in college radio.
There are three ways to support Western students (both current and future) on Give Day:
Your contribution to our project—find it here—will help students who want to gain the concrete skills and amazing community that comes with participating with KUGS. We've got a big goal, but we think we can reach it with your help.
So let's GIVE!
Thanks so much,
—The KUGS Scholarship Crew
Friends of KUGS:
Thank you to KUGS alumni and lead singer of Cumulus, Alexandra Niedzialkowski, who gave the scholarship a shout out on the radio! Check out her full interview and in studio performance on YouTube or below, or you can skip to the eighth minute to hear about the scholarship. More music by Cumulus is available on their website, https://www.cumulusband.com/.
Mark your calendars for May 30, WWU's "Give Day." On Give Day, a percentage of every gift to WWU will be matched. And, the WWU Alumni Association will reward the top five areas that secure the most donors with a bonus of $1,000 each! Please make a donation on May 30 - any amount will increase our chances to get another $1,000. The KUGS Scholarship page for Give Day is available at https://wwugiveday.wwu.edu/giving-day/14490/department/17454.
Stay awesome!
Donors and friends:
Thank you so much for your support so far. We appreciate it! To date, we have raised $11,081! GiveBIG has passed, but you can still give! We hope you will continue to support this fundraiser if you are able.
A past KUGS DJ recently wrote us her story and allowed us to share it anonymously. She volunteered for KUGS in the 1980s. "KUGS was a lifesaver to me," she explained. "That's where I found my tribe. And my voice."
A scholarship would have helped her along her way:
The musical options were incredible! A DJ on [another local station] heard one of my shows and encouraged me to apply for a paying job there, so I did and I got the job! I was 20 years old. I still volunteered at KUGS, in addition to my [other] job... What a blast!...
We were so poor back then! Even with a paying job, I qualified for food stamps. Having the opportunity to compete for a KUGS scholarship would have been wonderful. I'm grateful you're doing this.
KUGS is holding an alumni reunion next Saturday, May 18. Information about the reunion is on the Facebook invite website. We hope to see many of you there!
Thank you all so much for your support! We have reached 37% of our goal!
If you have some time tonight, stop by our fundraising event at Coindexter's Bar in Greenwood between 7pm and 11pm. We'll be hosting a raffle, taking donations, and answering questions about the scholarship and the fundraiser. You can learn more about the event through our Facebook invitation.
See you there!
When: Saturday, May 18, 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Where: Viking Union, Bellingham, WA 98225, USA
KUGS is celebrating 45 years of music, news, and interviews! A little band called The Ramones played their first gig at CBGB in New York, former waitress Debbie Harry started Blondie, and KUGS began to broadcast from a janitor’s closet under the dining hall in Kappa. Since then, we’ve been broadcasting and amplifying Western’s voice, supporting local bands and WWU talent including Death Cab for Cutie, ODESZA, and keeping our community informed on local and global news.
We have a lot to celebrate, and we want you with us at WWU Alumni Weekend! We’ll be hosting tours of our studio (we’ve come a long way in 45 years) and then gathering in the Viking Union room 565.
12:30 to 2:00 p.m. - Tours of KUGS studio
2:00 to 3:30 p.m. - KUGS 89.3 45th Anniversary Reunion
Thank you!
Hello there.
We are excited to announce that we have received over 20% of our goal and we have surpassed $5,000! Thank you all for your support and we are so excited to help future WWU students find a home at KUGS.
Later this month, we are hosting a fundraising event to celebrate the support we have received so far and to seek more donations! Please join us on April 24, 2019 at Coindexter's Bar in Greenwood between 7pm and 11pm for a party. There will be a drink special and a wonderful crowd.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you so much for everyone who already donated to support the KUGS Scholarship! We are so excited to be 18% towards our goal so far after only three days into our campaign.
We'll continue to reach out in the community for another three months seeking support and donations. In the meantime, please share this campaign with your friends! And, thank you again for your support!
