Throw Down for WWU! Help Support your WWU Track and Field Throwers WWU Track & Field Who We Are: We are the Viking Track and Field Throws squad—powerful athletes dedicated to achieving excellence both on and off the field. As a close-knit and dynamic group, we thrive on a culture of family, teamwork, and competitive spirit. This year, we proved ourselves as key contributors to the success of the WWU Track and Field team, scoring a combined 76 points at the GNAC Indoor Championships and 125 points at the GNAC Outdoor Championships, helping secure first place in both! Our throws crew had some amazing success. During the outdoor season they collected 11 All-GNAC awards, 12 national provisional marks, 5 National qualifiers in 6 events, as well as 2 GNAC records. And, as we welcome some pretty incredible talent to our team this year, we know big things lie ahead for the Viking Throws Crew! Our Goal: We’re raising funds to cover travel expenses for upcoming meets. These resources will enable every thrower on the team to perform at their best, ensuring they have the opportunities necessary to succeed. Why We Need Your Support: Despite our remarkable achievements, our budget remains limited. To continue excelling, we need to provide our throwers with the experiences and opportunities they deserve. Here’s how your donation can make a difference: Travel Expenses: Attending competitions requires transportation, lodging, and meals—all crucial to making sure every athlete can participate and compete at their best. Our total Throwers fundraising goal is $13,200. Your Impact: Your donation will go directly to supporting the throwers on our team. Rather than distributing funds across our entire 136-member roster, your contribution will be streamlined to support your favorite Student-Athlete and their event group, the throws squad. This means your donation will have a direct and tangible impact on the person you’re supporting! Your donations assist the Club for Urban and Environmental Sustainability's (CUES) students in attending APA's National Planning Conference this spring! This October of 2026, the American Planning Association (APA) Washington Chapter is organizing a statewide conference in Vancouver, WA. Every year, about 15-25 Western students attend these types of planning conferences, providing them with valuable exposure to the mainstream planning profession, insights into solutions for challenges that fellow planners have faced, and opportunities to network with planning organizations, academics, and employers. Your donations assist the Club for Urban and Environmental Sustainability's (CUES) (formerly Western Urban Planners) students in attending APA WA State Conference this October! Since 2017, Dr. Laninga has taken over 111 students to both the National Planning Conference and APA WA Conference because of the impact they can have on a student's future career opportunities. One student attendee of NPC 2024 Minneapolis said that it was inspiring, “[My first planning conference] inspired me to seek involvement in my own community and heavily invest myself not only in my curriculum but in the world we live in." At NPC 2025 Denver, one student was offered an interview with a Tribal planning department, and later accepted the job! Our goal is to provide this crucial professional development opportunity to any senior club member who wishes to attend. Any assistance will bring us closer than ever to reaching this goal and allowing urban planning students the opportunity to participate without the fear of additional costs.
